You do not have to buy a course to prepare. Below are the free, official resources for this credential — every link is the vendor's or certifying body's own page, sourced and dated. We tell you plainly where the free path is complete and where it stops.

Free-path rating: Objectives free, prep is paid. The vendor publishes the exam objectives/outline for free, but its structured training is paid. The free path here is the spec to study against, not a course.

Free official resources

What to know

• CISSP Certification Exam Outline (free PDF, 8 domains): Free downloadable outline (effective 15 Apr 2024).
• Official CISSP Flash Cards (free study aid): Free official flash cards (a study aid, not a practice exam) listed on the self-study hub. The study guide, practice tests, and official training are paid. (ISC2's previously free CC entry program closed to new enrollment in May 2026 and is not a CISSP resource.)

The free path, in order

1. Start from the exam objectives / outline — it is the exact list of what the exam tests, and it is free. Study against it, not against a course's table of contents.

2. The vendor's structured training is paid, so the honest free route is: study the objectives, use free/low-cost reputable material, and budget only for the exam itself — see what it costs to earn and keep.

Free resources reduce what you spend to study; they do not reduce the exam fee and do not guarantee a pass. A course is not the certification.
