What is a computer network?
Interconnected computing components that share data — the NIST definition.
What it means
NIST defines a network as "a system implemented with a collection of connected components. Such components may include routers, hubs, cabling, telecommunications controllers, key distribution centers, and technical control devices."
Networking fundamentals (how devices connect and communicate — IP, DNS, routing) are a core skill for networking and security roles, which is why credentials like CompTIA Network+ and Cisco CCNA exist.
