Did the PMP exam change in 2026, and is the PMP being retired?

What happened in July 2026 was a change to the exam's content outline, not a withdrawal of the credential.

PMI launched an updated PMP exam on 9 July 2026, built against a new Examination Content Outline dated July 2026. When we checked on 2026-07-30, the PMP was still listed as an offered certification — the credential is the same credential, and the questions are drawn against a revised description of the work.

According to PMI's July 2026 Examination Content Outline, the three domains are weighted People 33%, Process 41% and Business Environment 26%.

The practical check: find the outline date on whatever you are studying from. If it does not say July 2026, it was written against a different set of domain weights, even where the underlying content still applies.

What we don't know

We have not sourced the previous outline's domain weightings from an official document, so we are not telling you which domains went up or down — only what the July 2026 outline says. We have also not verified the exact time of the 9 July 2026 changeover, so if you are sitting the exam close to it, ask PMI rather than relying on us. One more thing worth being straight about: on 2026-07-30, PMI's website would not let us read it automatically. The domain weightings above come from the official PMI outline document, which we downloaded and read in full. The announcement around it we could only reach through a third-party service that fetches and displays PMI's page for you — so we have kept our claims to what the outline document itself says.
