Read what that sentence covers: the certification, the exam, and renewal assessments, and it says you will no longer be able to earn or renew. That is a wider statement than the usual notice that an exam is being updated, which is why it is worth reading twice rather than skimming.
If you are studying for it, the question is not which version to prepare for but whether you can sit it before 31 August 2026. If you already hold it, the notice speaks to earning and renewing, not to certifications already awarded.
We read that page on 2026-07-30. Depending on when you are reading this, 31 August 2026 may already have passed — the official page is the authority here, not this one.
What we don't know
Microsoft's notice does not name a replacement credential, and we will not invent one by guessing which certification is closest. We also do not know what happens to a certification already held once renewal is no longer possible; the notice does not say. And we have not established whether this is part of a wider withdrawal — we checked one other Azure certification on 2026-07-30 and it carried no retirement notice, which is not the same as checking them all.
